Luke 2:4-7  NLT

And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee.  He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child.  And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born.   She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

Reflection

Have you ever asked yourself the question, “Why is this happening? I thought this is what God wanted me to do.” Well, at times we think that things should go smoother for us because we’re obedient. Right? Not necessarily. As Mary and Joseph go into Bethlehem to look for a room, do you think they wondered why there weren’t any rooms left? I mean, why did God send them to where there were no rooms? He knew they were coming. This was all God’s perfect plan for how he wanted his son to come into the world; Not the comfortable way in the inn but in humble circumstances in a manger. God still provided for them, but perhaps not in the way they expected.

Is there something you’re going through today that perhaps makes you doubt God and his plan for you? Sometimes if we are disobedient we can bring hardships on ourselves. Sometimes even when we are obedient, the ride can be bumpy. There are no guarantees of comfort but God promises to provide and to be with us along the way. He loves us and is worthy to be trusted.

Prayer

Thank you God for what I have and what I don’t have. I thank you in all circumstances because your love for me is perfect. Help me to trust and lean on you when days seem dark. Remind me that you’re there with me, every step of the way. Amen
